The 19-year-old utility broke 12 seconds for the 100 metres in beating Melrose FC’s flying winger Adam Waters.
Smith was reluctant to declare himself the fastest at the O and M club.
“There are plenty of quick blokes at the club and with Ash Pollard (last year’s winner) leaving they nominated me for the race and we kept the tradition going,” he said.
“That was my first competitive run in two years so it was pretty good.
“But footy training is a lot tougher than running 100 metres on grass.”
