The Murray Vale Shalem Hostel resident, who is thought to be Albury’s oldest woman, said she enjoyed her weekend celebration with the hostel’s 60 residents and staff.
“I had a wonderful day,” she said.
“Everyone was really wonderful.”
Mrs Sells remains active, participating in trivia, group crosswords, and reading groups.
She also takes day trips on a bus driven by her son, Norm Wilson.
She also sends letters to her sister in Britain and was delighted when she received a card from her on her birthday.
She celebrated her centenary in 2011 with her three sons — it was the first time that had all been together for a decade.
Mrs Sells said “nothing startling” had happened since, but Mr Wilson said his mother still made new friends and “chatted to everyone”.
Mrs Sells moved to Australia from Birmingham, England, when she was 12.
She lived at Bethanga, before moving to Albury in 1976 and has been a resident at the hostel since 1989.
She had no secret to her longevity, apart from the simple advice of “keeping yourself active”.
