Cavanough, who is enjoying his best start to a racing season, has trained 30 winners in the Southern Districts.
He leads the premiership race by 11 wins over Wagga trainer Trevor Sutherland.
With Saturday marking the halfway point of the season, Cavanough is on track to smash his best of 40 winners for a Southern District season.
He is also running second in the NSW Country trainers premiership behind titleholder Luke Griffith, from Scone.
Griffith has 36.
The pair are well clear of Tamworth trainer Sue Grills on 23.
Cavanough has won nine Southern District titles and three NSW Country titles, with his best tally being 72 winners.
His stellar start can be attributed to a talented crop of three-year-olds in Scatcat, Just A Bullet and The Monstar.
The talented trio have notched 11 wins between them in the Southern District.
Cavanough said after Steakandbernaise had scored a comfortable 2½-length win as the $1.90-favourite on Friday that he looked to have a fair amount of ability.
“Steakandbernaise is well bred but I’m not sure how far he will get this preparation,” Cavanough said.
“He has got above-average ability and we probably won’t see the best of him until he gets to race over 2000 metres.
“But he looks to be a pretty promising horse.”
Steakandbernaise is raced by prominent owner Richard Pegum, who has been a long-time supporter of the Cavanough stable.
Cavanough made it a winning double at the meeting when Marble Prince saluted with apprentice Chynna Marston aboard.
Marble Prince had been knocking on the door of a win after being placed in three of his previous four starts.
The stable could easily have enjoyed an even bigger day with Rusty Motorbike, New Moves and Strada’s Diamond all finishing second.
Wodonga trainer Brian Cox also extended his recent good form, landing a double with Bay Of Biscay and Looksmart.
Cavanough’s stable star Niblick, alongside talented stablemates Bossdon City and Price Of Glory, will contest jump-outs on their home track today.
The trio will resume from spells in the coming weeks to target races over the Albury Gold Cup carnival next month.
