Indigo FM’s Rutherglen station, which joins similarly named community broadcasters at Beechworth and Yackandandah, was launched with an all-day celebration on Sunday.
It included showing off the station’s studio in a former ladies’ parlour at the front of the Victoria Hotel and an official cake cutting by Indigo councillor Roberta Horne.
Mud Puppies, a Rutherglen duo, performed a song they created in honour of their hometown for the occasion.
Indigo FM secretary Scott Landells said although the station had been on-air for several months the launch offered a publicity boost for the station which can be heard within a 10-kilometre radius of Rutherglen.
“It’s really important to have an official launch because we’ve been broadcasting for awhile but bringing things together and getting the community involved is good,” Mr Landells said.
Among those gracing the airwaves were Rutherglen Primary School grade five students Tess Palubiski and Caleb Andison.
The youngsters spent 30 minutes talking about environmental concerns.
Indigo FM can be heard on 87.6.
