After bowling the opposition out for 179, the class of Daniel prevailed with the former North Albury skipper making 101 not out in a score of 4-264.
Wangaratta reeled in the target in the 41st over.
Kent Braden (88), Darren Peterson (37) and Hayden Murray (29) also contributed with the bat.
Wangaratta coach Barry Grant said it was a strong start to the week.
“The team gelled together well,” Grant said last night.
“We have struggled with the bat for a few years so it was pleasing to see Greg Daniel and our other batsmen make runs.
“There could be a bit of rain around later in the week which makes the early games even more important.
“It was good to pick up some handy extra points in the final overs and hopefully we can build on today’s win.”
After winning the toss and fielding, Wangaratta bowled Gisborne out in the 49th over with Daniel the pick of the bowlers (2-40) while Braden also proved difficult to get away.
Wangaratta will take on Goulburn Murray at Elsternwick today.
Goulburn Murray proved no match for the powerful Sunraysia line-up on day one at Balwyn Park with Sunraysia shaping as the biggest threat to Wangaratta.
Meanwhile, Benalla lost a thriller to Ballarat in their division-2 clash at Princes Park.
Set 8-228 for victory, the North East association came agonisingly close before being bowled out in the final over two runs short of victory.
