Wodonga Acting Sgt Gavin Blair said the driver failed to stop for a car check at 4.30am and a short pursuit followed in Vermont Street, which ended when the occupants fled on foot.
Police were unable to locate the offenders and it was unclear how many people were in the late model white Volkswagen Golf.
Sgt Blair said a check of the vehicle found the car was stolen from Albury on February 25.
The vehicle contained stolen property, including some items of jewellery, from Cash Exchangers in Dean Street, Albury that was taken sometime Thursday night or early yesterday morning.
Police are appealing for any witnesses.
