Luke was bashed to death on February 13 at the hands of his estranged father during cricket practice in the Mornington Peninsula town of Tyabb.
Women’s Health Goulburn North East Health Promotion Worker Caitlyn Hoggan said the incident demonstrated the importance of addressing violence against women and their children.
“Family violence can be swept under the rug,” the North East health worker said.
“Regional communities can think that it doesn’t happen here or it doesn’t happen to people like us.
“It helps communities realise that it is an issue.”
Ms Hoggan said Luke’s mother’s comments that family violence could affect anyone were true.
“Promoting equality and respect is important so these things don’t happen,” she said.
