A $23,000 red 2013 Suzuki hatch was stolen from the garage of a Stott Court home in Wodonga overnight on Tuesday when its owner was away.
Detective Leading Sen-Constable Ian Deverell said thieves broke into the home, ransacked the premises and located the keys to the car.
He said the car was found dumped with a damaged wheel over the border in Milton Street, Lavington, at 2pm on Wednesday.
Sen-Constable Deverell said the car could have been used for other crimes on the Border during the time it was taken and he called for anyone who saw the car between 8am and 2pm on Wednesday to phone police.
Meanwhile, a man, 22, is assisting police with their enquiries in relation to a Volkswagen Golf that police saw speeding down Lawrence Street in Wodonga at 3.30am last Friday.
Detective Leading Sen-Constable Tracy Jarrott said the Victorian registered car, which had been stolen from an Albury home on Monday last week, was later found abandoned in a vacant lot in Vermont Street.
Stolen property, including jewellery, was found in the dumped car.
Sen-Constable Jarrott said police are trying to identify the people who were in the car at the time and urged anyone who saw it between last Monday to when it was abandoned to contact police.
She said it was another reminder for people to keep their cars locked and valuables out of vehicles with a number of thefts of cars and theft from cars in the Wodonga area recently.
Anyone with information on either incidents should phone Wodonga police station on (02) 6049 2600.
