The Caterpillar D7R dozer, which cost $820,000, will be used in fire operations and other forest programs.
“A dozer of this size and capability can play a critical role during wildfire events, constructing fire breaks and protecting important public assets,” Rob Caddell said.
Mr Caddell is senior fire management officer in the Upper Murray.
“While it will be located in the Upper Murray fire district, the dozer adds to our regional resources and may even be deployed throughout the state to major fire incidents,” he said.
Representatives of William Adams Pty Ltd visited Tallangatta to hand over the machine to DSE senior operator Rob Kohne.
Mr Kohne said the dozer was a welcome addition to the Upper Murray.
“When it is not being used for fire suppression and fuel reduction burning, the dozer will be used for forest road construction and maintenance as well as rehabilitation works,” he said.
