Dubbo businessmen David Attwood and Brendan Cooper have bought the hotel, their second in the city after previously buying The Albion Hotel in Dean St.
Coincidentally, they have bought Brady’s from the same partners who sold The Albion to them, Mal Hutchinson and Graeme Bosse.
The latter pair have been in business for over 30 years and at various times have owned Albury hotels The Terminus, Soden’s, Brady’s, The Albion (twice), Springdale Heights Tavern, Jindera Hotel and The Riverina at Holbrook; at one stage owning The Albion, Brady’s, Springdale Heights, Jindera and The Riverina at the same time.
But Mr Hutchinson said that the time had come to wind up the partnership and for him to retire.
“I’ll be 68 on my next birthday, knew this day would eventually come and I want to pull out while I am still able to enjoy a good lifestyle,” he said.
“I have six beautiful grandchildren and I would like to spend more time with them and my wonderful wife, Maureen.
“There has been lots of hard work, especially early on, but we had a huge amount of fun.
“I hope that in coming years Brendan and David have as much fun as Graeme and I did.”
Mr Hutchinson is known to have enjoyed the odd trip to attend race meetings and to play golf over the years, but denied he would be bored with the extra time on his hands.
“Are you kidding me?” he said.
Mr Bosse and his family will retain ownership of and continue to run Springdale Heights Tavern and The Riverina Hotel.
Mr Attwood will be the new licensee at Brady’s and will live at the hotel with his wife Paula.
“I can’t wait to start to live here,” he said.
“Albury is a great place and we fell in love with it when we came down to look at The Albion before we bought it.
“We will not be changing a thing at Brady’s; it is a great hotel.”
Did he and Mr Cooper have any plans to add another hotel to their stable?
“If another pub came up for sale in Albury and we had the money we would definitely look at it.”
Mr Attwood said that he and Mr Cooper have been partners for about 10 years.
It is believed the sale of the Astor Hotel-Motel will be finalised within two weeks.
