The group titled “Pause and Reset” has been founded by Heidi Neumeister, who has personal experience from being made redundant on a voluntary and involuntary basis during her working life.
Ms Neumeister is employed two days a week at Corowa Council, but wanted to help others who have lost their jobs by starting up the group.
The first meeting will be held at Soden’s Hotel from 10am.
“I have established this network to enable people who have been made redundant to connect with others who have experienced the same thing,” she said.
“Ideally it will facilitate much-needed emotional support and provide real practical assistance by way of information on a range of topics.
“They include setting up a business, dealing with banks, setting up a franchise, entering into further study, financial and investment advice as well as taxation, superannuation and insurances, volunteering, mentoring, using digital technology, staying organised and taking a personal stocktake of skills, experiences and future goals.”
She planned to arrange guest speakers to address monthly meetings.
Ms Neumeister said the group’s focus would be on communication and getting people talking and becoming more aware of their own networks.
“Having worked in recruitment and HR roles I have often said ‘people don’t hire resumes, they hire people’,” she said.
“My aim is to facilitate a network to enable these people to get known and generate a ‘people helping people’ response.
“At the same time if I can facilitate some access to local resources and professional advice hopefully those affected will be better resourced to access the myriad of options that are out there.
“They are not necessarily represented as a job advertised on SEEK or in the papers.”
