The colourful painting, which she describes as whimsical, will be auctioned at tomorrow’s inaugural Gold Cup Charity lunch at the Albury Racecourse.
Fresh from a sellout Melbourne exhibition, Davenport said Song of Joy was an appropriate title for the painting.
“I was thrilled to donate a painting to such a great charity function that has raised so much money to help children over the years,” she said.
The mixed media painting has been done on voile and reflects Davenport’s reputation for exquisite colour and free, undulating forms.
More than 200 women dressed in race attire are expected to attend the sellout lunch to kickstart the gold cup party.
Since 1999, money from the lunch has been donated to the Wewak Street School, with more than $200,000 spent on various projects.
This year it will broaden to include more projects to help Border children with disabilities and special needs.
To reflect the growth, it was decided to formalise and expand fund-raising efforts and the Gold Cup Charity Limited was registered last year.
Secretary Shellie Graham said the objectives remained the same — generating funds for projects to benefit children with disabilities and special needs — but submissions from a variety of groups were now considered.
Proceeds will go to four projects — Aspect Riverina Albury, Aspire Support Services: Early Childhood Intervention, Hume Public School Special Education Support Unit and Wewak Street School.
Tickets are $110 and include racecourse entry, lunch, bubbly on arrival, lucky door prizes, auction and raffle prizes.
