Wodonga Council’s annual Paws in the Park on Sunday, April 6, is a big event for Wodonga Dog Rescue and its dogs.
Its volunteers say the day helps find homes for dogs they rescued from pounds and homes.
“People get out and come down to look at a dog they might be thinking of adopting,” Wodonga Dog Rescue co-ordinator Peta McRae said.
“They also bring back dogs adopted from us, so we get to see them.”
Mrs McRae said the team would take many of its rescued dogs again.
There will be dogs like happy Caddie the three-legged terrier mix, Cassidy the loyal staghound-cross and running fanatic Ruby the staffy-cross.
Cassidy and Ruby were both rescued from the pound while Caddie, whose owners couldn’t afford to fix her leg after she was hit by a car, was taken in before she was euthanised.
“She is full-on, out there, runs around, she is just a happy little dog,” Mrs McRae said.
For those with a canine companion already at home, there will be paws parades, competitions and obedience demonstrations and tips.
The Border Mail’s Hot 100 Dog competition will be contested again this year, so get along early to have your pooch’s photograph taken.
The free event runs from 8am to noon at Willow Park in Pearce Street, Wodonga.
