His mother, former police officer and Albury councillor, Lynda Summers, has described the news of the attack on her son on the night of Albury’s annual Gold Cup, as “every parent’s worst nightmare”.
She has called upon Border residents to speak out against the prevalence of violence, fuelled by “a sea of booze”, that sees victims requiring major surgery to repair serious injuries.
Worse still, she says, is the possibility an attacker will strike again and inflict a fatal blow upon their victim.
Ms Summers wants those who witness these assaults to step up and tell police what they know, in an effort to stamp out the violence.
Her son Jake now faces a long road to recovery after he undergoes surgery today to reconstruct his face, which has multiple fractures as a result of the assault.
For a young man embarking on his adult life, the consequences of a night out with friends have been grave.
Those with information must speak out.
