Nowhere has that been clearer than the Border this past week, with the community’s thoughts with Albury Tigers’ James McQuillan and his family.
The 20-year-old remains in The Alfred with a spinal injury after a freak on-field accident on April 5.
Donations have been flooding in to help with McQuillan’s treatment, prompting the club to open a trust fund, with ANZ Bank donating $5000 and at least one substantial anonymous donor.
Support messages have been streaming in from far and wide.
Albury Tigers officials yesterday went to South Barwon Football Club to talk about its experiences with a similar situation last year — what do borders matter when you can help one another?
McQuillan is out of intensive care and in brighter spirits, says Albury president Gavan Schultz, but he faces a long road ahead with his prognosis still unclear.
One thing is certain, however, and that’s the local community’s unwavering support.
We hope that can be, in whatever small way, some comfort to the McQuillans.
Albury-Wodonga is right behind you.
