Albury youngster Sonny Martin, 4, was doing just that at the Oddies Creek Reserve while other families from far and wide were enjoying the sunshine in the park and walks beside the Murray River.
Some were eating relaxed picnic lunches and there were a lot of laughs as people caught up with family or friends at the riverside parks.
Belinda Rimell, after a busy weekend and having eaten too much chocolate, was recovering with her sister, parents, nieces and nephews.
“We don’t get to see each other that often so our weekend has been really family oriented,” the Melbourne visitor said.
Her group spent an hour walking from Wodonga to Hovell Tree Park for a picnic lunch.
Ms Rimell was preparing to travel back to Melbourne but said she would have been happy if the holiday had involved another day off.
Her niece Keeley O’Reilly agreed, remembering she was back at school today.
Cory Bradley was nursing his 11-month-old son Dexter to sleep.
“It’s been a big weekend,” he said.
“You don’t get many opportunities to have all your family together so you have the make the most of it.”
Best friends for more than 10 years, Hayley Bousfield and Christine Culnane, had selected Albury as a meeting point between Canberra and Melbourne.
