The police helicopter will conduct an aerial search for the missing man.
Just before 3.30pm on Anzac Day (Friday, April 25) a man was spotted in distress in the water at Petrel Cove, near The Bluff, as he was being struck against rocks.
A witness entered the water and tried to rescue the man who had lost consciousness.
The witness then found himself in trouble as he and the unconscious man were now being pushed into the rocks by the current.
Another man on a body board also went to help and attempted to lift the unconscious man onto his board however, he was unable to do so.
The first witness then made his way back onto the rocks where he was rescued by the Westpac Rescue helicopter.
The second witness made his way back to shore on his board.
Rescue boats are now searching the area for the man.
The first witness received some minor cuts and abrasions.
