A spokesman for the member for Farrer said last night Ms Ley had been battling a flu virus throughout the week.
She had felt increasingly unwell on the last leg of the trip to Albury via Sydney.
“She was assessed and treated at Albury hospital and allowed to go home for some much-needed rest,” the spokesman said.
“I’m led to believe this delayed the departure of passengers from the aircraft.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank those who have since inquired about her health.
“Ms Ley would also like to express her appreciation to the Rex crew, the paramedic team and base hospital staff for their professional care and concern shown both during and following the flight.”
Ms Ley, 52, has been assistant Minister for Education since the federal election in September.
She recovered to fulfil her official responsibilities on Anzac Day, including the 10am service in Albury.
Ms Ley will return to Canberra shortly.
