9.10AM: The family of a man killed in a Bright car crash over the weekend has vowed to bring his ashes back to his homeland of New Zealand.
Jarrah Spaan's grandmother, Carol, told Fairfax media in New Zealand that her grandson was the only child of West Coast couple Russell Spaan and Mandy Spafford.
It was understood he was selling his car and accompanied the driver, John Paul Cole, on a test-drive when the vehicle lost control and smashed into a power pole near Bright early on Saturday.
Carol, who declined to give her surname, said his death had shocked everybody.
"I loved him very dearly. He was loved by everybody," she said.
Spaan's grandmother said it was likely his parents would bring his ashes back to be scattered on the West Coast.
John Paul Cole faced Wangaratta Magistrate's Court on multiple charges on Monday and is expected to apply for bail on Thursday.
