Trainer Kurt Goldman’s team will be led by in-form galloper Faust to be ridden by Sam Clipperton in tomorrow’s $140,000 Listed-Duke of Kent Hotel Wagga Gold Cup over 2000 metres.
Faust has only had four runs for Goldman, finishing second at Kembla Grange and at Canterbury Park, before victories at Royal Randwick (Kensington Track) and in the Murrumbidgee Cup over 1800 metres at Wagga on April 13.
“This horse has always possessed heaps of ability but was doing a few things wrong,” Goldman said.
“However, mentally he has really turned the corner.
“His last two runs have been great and his confidence is growing — he now thinks he’s good.”
Faust has drawn barrier 14 but that does not concern Goldman.
“He’s a big free-striding horse who doesn’t like to be bustled so he’ll be fine out there,” he said.
