The Border native said Albury-Wodonga’s youth desperately needed a place to help overcome problems such as anxiety and depression.
“Especially nowadays, I think there’s a need for this,” Jackson said.
“There’s a lot more pressure on young people to conform and the need for a centre or facility like this, with counselling and somewhere to go for youth to talk about problems, is crucial.
“Especially to be able to develop good relationships with the youth in Albury-Wodonga and to make sure kids aren’t hurting themselves.
“I think what The Border Mail is doing — well, no one else has done it, — so it’s a very commendable thing to do. And we really need more of it.”
Jackson filled out a headspace butterfly as part of her support for the cause, writing, “The need of this facility is crucial for young people and people in need to get the help required to live a long and prosperous life”.
The basketball superstar is also a passionate advocate for greater awareness of domestic violence issues and is in the process of completing a degree from Macquarie University to that effect.
“I’m the patron of the NSW Rape Crisis Centre ... I want to make it not so taboo so that people feel more comfortable talking about it, making the community more aware as a whole.”
