Adjunct Professor Susan O'Neill is the executive director of nursing at Cabrini Health in Melbourne and is expected to start her new role in three months' time.
Albury Wodonga Health said this morning that Professor O'Neill was well known throughout Australian Health Care as a regular keynote speaker on quality and safety in health care.
Dr Spring will stay in the role until Professor O'Neill arrives on the Border.
