The Assistant Minister for Education and her Farrer electorate office team of six will move soon from 520 Swift Street to 517 Kiewa Street, the former offices of L.J. Colquhoun Dixon Commercial Real Estate.
The Swift Street suite has been the headquarters of the local federal MP since 1977 when Liberal minister Wal Fife represented Farrer.
The lease on that office is due to expire soon and Ms Ley and her team have been searching for larger headquarters.
“A number of IT, staff and meeting space issues had cropped up,” Ms Ley said yesterday.
“We’ve taken the opportunity to locate a nearby office which better suits our local needs.”
Ms Ley used the vacant 517 Kiewa Street — owned by the Albury Club — as her election campaign office last year and celebrated her re-election next door at the Albury Club.
The Swift Street offices were used by Mr Fife until 1984 when he transferred to Hume, and by former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer from 1984 to 2001.
Ms Ley has been the local member since 2001 and also maintains a second office in Broken Hill.
