The Bulldogs, in front of a parochial home crowd, took advantage of a dominant first half, with Nathaniel Conlan finding the back of the net twice before Luke Pontt added a third before the break.
Magpies keeper Scott Foley was outstanding in the first stanza, but when the rain came it was the Bulldogs’ Ben Martin who had to weather the storm.
“In the second half, the weather closed in and playing conditions deteriorated quickly,” Bulldogs president Kyle Brereton said.
“To the Magpies’ credit they handled the conditions better than the young Bulldogs and took the ball numerous times into their attacking half.”
Wodonga won 3-0, with Conlon best on ground in a game coach Craig Pontt described as the best his team had played all year.
Brereton said it was a great day for raising awareness around cancer and honouring former president Dave Chandler with the 10th cup match between the two clubs.
“The biggest winner was the Victorian Cancer Council’s ‘Call to Arms’ initiative, which aims to increase the awareness of cancer within men,” he said.
