A Braybrook man, 26, had his car impounded for a month after being charged with a number of offences last night.
Wodonga Highway Patrol officers said they waited to intercept the man on the Hume Freeway after receiving reports of a black sedan passing cars at high speed.
They detected the Holden Commodore passing cars and trucks at 159km/h at 6.15pm and pulled it over in Barnawartha North, 2km south of the Murray Valley Highway, a short time later.
They discovered the driver was a learner driver and his female passenger's learner permit had expired.
Four children aged 5 to 12 were in the back seat, with two sharing a seatbelt.
The driver later undertook a preliminary breath test and later recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.074 at the Wodonga police station
