The blue and golds will become Tigers for the home game against Tumut next week, with the hybrid jerseys to be auctioned for the injured Albury footballer that night at the Steamers’ mid-year ball.
President Justin Clancy said choosing McQuillan as the beneficiary of the mid-year ball fund-raising was a no-brainer.
“We all play different games but the Border is one sporting community,” he said.
“I think everyone, not just those here at the Steamers, realise these injuries could happen to anyone at any time — it’s the risk we take every week when we step onto the field.
“In the past we have supported a number of charities, last year it was the McGrath Foundation, this year when we sat down there was no discussion needed.
“All the clubs across the various codes have thrown their support into this and we feel we already have special ties with the Albury footy club, partnering with them to put on a Super Rugby trial game at the sportsground earlier this year.”
Clancy said the jerseys would be sold in a silent auction at the mid-year ball next Saturday night at the Commercial Club.
