Officers had been told a man in a grey or black Holden Commodore had fired a shot after another driver had stopped to let out to passengers.
The men were in Prune Street, near Kaitlers Road, about 3.20am.
Police found no evidence of a bullet, casing, or damage at the scene.
Inspector Lynelle Rodwell said the investigation had been closed.
“There is no evidence to suggest there was any shooting,” she said.
Inspector Matthew Tishler said no charges would be laid against the men who reported the incident.
“It’s just a case that they may have been mistaken,” he said.
“There is no suggestion false information has been knowingly supplied to us.
“The suggestion at the time was they had been fired at — our investigation doesn’t suggest any evidence of that.”
Police had viewed security vision from a nearby business as part of their investigation.
