After some erratic mid-season form, the Demons exploded into action to reclaim second spot on the ladder and give Cudgewa coach Bill Deery plenty to think about ahead of their second semi-final clash in a fortnight.
Adding further merit, the Demons claimed their best victory of the season without coach Andrew Reid (shoulder), Jack Geddes (ankle) and Troy Cooper (unavailable).
Reid said the Demons would now take a huge psychological boost into the second semi-final clash at Cudgewa.
“It’s pleasing to be peaking at the right time of the season,” Reid said.
“Previously we haven’t really worried about match-ups but we really focused on getting our match-ups right this week.
“Blokes have also been sticking to the game plan for the past month and it’s no coincidence things have started to go our way.
“We always knew we were capable of beating Cudgewa.
“But the season is over now and it’s not about what has happened over the past 15 weeks. It’s about what happens over the next four weeks and that is our sole focus.”
The efforts of Demons Richard Spink, Shannon Gilson and Adrian Rijnbeek were the cornerstones of the impressive win.
Gilson’s 30-plus touches were all of the highest quality as Rijnbeek and Russell Anderson capitalised up forward to combine for 14 goals.
Deery kicked two goals for the Blues to tie for the league goalkicking with teammate Brendan McEvoy on 66 goals.
Bullioh spanked Federal by 73 points and Tumbarumba clinched fourth spot with a 29-point win over Border-Walwa.
