The speaker is Dr Angela Lanfranchi and Albury’s own Dr Roland von Marburg is chairing this portion of the conference.
The Employment Minister, Senator Eric Abetz, is hosting a lunch at Parliament House on August 28 for Dr Lanfranchi and other speakers.
He recently made mention of this “link” on a television program.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott corrected Senator Abetz for making statements that had long been discredited, but this conference is still going ahead.
Minister for Social Services Kevin Andrews is presiding over it.
He was also a keynote speaker at the recent Coalition for Life Dinner (also in Melbourne).
Endeavour Forum Inc., Convener of these conferences, is an anti-choice organisation founded to counter feminism and support the “natural” family.
They openly oppose homosexuality and gay marriage.
Helpers of God’s Precious Infants — the anti-choice obstructionists who have been an intimidating presence outside Englehardt Street Clinic Albury for 14 years — are also major sponsors of these conferences.
Members of Parliament, of course, have every right to attend these right-wing, religious conferences, even if the messages conveyed are ill-informed and misguided ... even if they are outmoded scientific theories from the 1950s, the aims of which appear to be entirely punitive.
Attending is one thing, but what does it say about us when ministers in our government, representing our country internationally, are presiding over these conferences and hosting luncheons in honour of these kinds of people?
They certainly do not represent my idea of what Australia is, or for that matter the city of Albury where I choose to live.
