PBA Safety attended an awards presentation on Friday, August 18, as a state finalist for the 2006 Telstra Business Awards.
There were five finalists in the NSW Panasonic Australia Business Award, for businesses with 20 to 50 employees.
While PBA Safety did not win, director Andrew Pratt said it was a great feat to be named a finalist.
There were about 1100 applications across Australia.
The company makes safety equipment such as gas cylinder cages, trolleys that reduce back strain, and showers and emergency eye washers for chemical industries.
Accountant Rad Gavrilovic said one reason they stood out was because their directors did hands-on work.
“Andrew Pratt is factory manager and goes through the processes alongside the boys,” he said.
“Geoff Pratt focuses on the marketing and is heavily involved in training sessions, with the sales team and the distributors.”
Andrew Pratt said working on the floor played a key part in building up a relationship with staff.
“We value our staff and they are an important part of our business strategy,” he said.
PBA Safety started 8 years ago and now has 17 staff in Albury, three in Melbourne, three in Brisbane and another factory in Perth that is controlled by an outside company.
The business has grown by 20 per cent per year over the past four years.
