He should have used the words “the truly poor”.
NRMA research shows that the cost of owning and driving a modest, economical small car is approximately $7500 per year.
Further, costs in Sydney (depending on the distances travelled) range up to and above $10,000 a year.
Are we to believe that the truly poor can afford such amounts?
Unfortunately the truly poor can’t and use public transport instead.
