Those were the words used by NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli yesterday at the official opening of $5 million worth of upgrades at the Wewak School in Albury.
The projects, including replacing demountable buildings, were completed late last year and earlier this year.
Another $2 million was used to improve facilities at the Kandeer School.
Mr Piccoli said Wewak and Kandeer were among 19 schools upgraded from using $94 million from leftover federal government school infrastructure funding.
“These schools cater for students with some of the most complex learning needs,” he said.
“A number of other schools in regional NSW also received upgrades.
“At Wewak the project included replacing demountable buildings with two permanent blocks, refurbishing and extending the toilet facilities, moving the ball court and constructing a covered area over the court.
“New facilities at Kandeer include two new classrooms, a library and games and a sports court.”
Mr Piccoli was joined at the opening by member for Albury Greg Aplin and member for Farrer Sussan Ley.
Ms Ley is also the assistant education minister.
“To see these projects completed is fantastic as they are purpose built to meet the needs of the students,” she said.
“Schools for specific purposes play a vital role in our local community, supporting students with moderate and severe intellectual and physical disabilities.
“The rebuild has provided students, staff and families with the quality facilities they need to continue this great work.”
The MPs were taken on a guided tour by principal Linda Cain.
