The man, 22, has been charged with high-range drink-driving after he registered a reading of 0.187, more than three times the legal limit.
Police are still investigating the hit and run, for which the 22-year-old is a suspect.
Tocumwal police Sgt Paul Jones said the incident occurred not far from the Jerilderie Hotel, in the town’s main street, just after 2am.
When the man left the pub and went to his car, a group of people surrounded the vehicle.
Police were called after the driver ran into a Jerilderie man, 33, who went over the vehicle’s bonnet but suffered no injuries.
The driver then did a U-turn and ran over another man, a 44-year-old from Urana, who was taken to Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton with a broken leg and fractured eye.
It is believed the driver did not know either of the victims.
Sgt Jones said the incident occurred after a brawl broke out in the street and resulted in people surrounding the offender’s car.
Witnesses described the vehicle and police discovered one matching the description a few streets over from the hotel, in Coreen Street.
Police arrested the 22-year-old, took him back to the police station and charged him with drink-driving.
Sgt Jones said the man was a suspect and declined to identify which town he was from, for fear of retribution.
Police have seized the vehicle for forensic investigation.
The man was bailed to appear at Finley Local Court on September 19 over the drink-driving charge.
