ALBURY Council has ticked off an independent assessment of a development application for improvements to the River Deck Cafe at Noreuil Park.

The assessment was undertaken by EDM Group due to the council’s ownership of the cafe and management of the popular riverside area.
The proposal agreed to unanimously by the council will involve the removal of the existing deck area and one established plane tree located between the building and deck area.
Alterations will also be made to the existing wall openings on the northern and western facades to accommodate a new-look layout.
A key feature of the revised layout will be an indoor/outdoor area under roof to enable year- round operation.
Sliding doors will provide for alfresco dining when weather permits.
The replacement deck area will continue to feature floorboards and wire balustrading.
Approval to remove the plane tree was provided on the condition it would be replaced with two advanced trees to be selected and planted to the satisfaction of the council.
All trees being retained will need to be suitably protected from damage during construction.
One submission was received on the development application from the Mitta Canoe Club, which is located in the same area.
It raised issues relating to parking, provision of bike racks, security, drainage and traffic flow in the area.
The council has agreed to investigate the possibility of creating a dedicated loading area adjacent to the existing building for access to the canoe club and cafe.
Bike racks will be considered by the council’s community and recreation department, extensive lighting upgrades in Noreuil Park public space areas have commenced and installation of lighting around the building is one of the conditions of consent.
The Murray River Experience masterplan recommends the re-alignment of the traffic and routes.
The council has not confirmed a start date for construction works.
