Police are investigating possible links between the two incidents, with one vehicle stolen from Albury and another from Wodonga.
The Albury vehicle, which was stolen from Wood Street, was found gutted by fire at the Old Stock Route early yesterday morning.
The Wodonga vehicle, which was taken from Acacia Crescent, was found at nearby Tooley Park on Magnolia Crescent.
The vehicles were found about an hour apart, the first one at 4.30am.
Firefighters extinguished both fires, with brigades from both sides of the Border called to the jobs.
“We’re looking into the possibility that both cars are linked,” Detective Leading Sen-Constable Justin Foots said.
“We believe the Wod-onga vehicle was stolen some time before 1am.
“The victim woke and looked out a window and realised the car was missing and went driving in search of it.
“The Albury victim didn’t notice the vehicle missing until the morning.”
Police do not believe the vehicles — a Holden Commodore and a Nissan Pulsar — were involved in any other crimes.
Both vehicles were destroyed by the fires.
“We’re appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to call Wodonga detectives or Crime Stoppers,” Sen-Constable Foots said.
Wodonga police are available on (02) 6049 2600 and Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
