Cook made his senior debut this season for the Raiders in round 15 against North Albury and caught the eye of spectators at Birallee Park with an impressive display in attack, booting 2.3.
But it was in the under-18 competition where he was a super consistent performer, polling in 10 matches, also continuing his form into the finals series.
The Raiders charge towards premiership glory was halted on Sunday by Wangaratta in the preliminary final but Cook still figured high among his team’s best players.
He finished on 24 votes to win from Wangaratta Rovers pair Matt Flynn and Shane Gaston (18 votes) while Wangaratta’s Luke Griffin (14) also polled strongly.
“It was a real shock. I didn’t think I had that good a year,” Cook said.
“I thought I had a pretty shocking year.
“I’d just like to thank all my team-mates. I couldn’t have done it without them.
“Football for me is all about my mates and I’ll be there next year as long as all my mates stick around.”
Cook joins Essendon utility Aaron Henneman, Corowa-Rutherglen Morris Medallist Ryan MacKenzie and Wangaratta Rovers midfielder Jamie Allan as winners of the award.
