A LAVINGTON swimming teacher hopes to see 100 indigenous children learn how to swim now that funding has been secured for another year.

Swimming NSW has committed funding until the end of next year for the indigenous participation swim program in a joint effort with Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service and Albury Council.
Swimming teacher Tap-Ky Duong said the funding made lessons within reach for a lot more people.
“Ideally every child should learn how to swim but it can be expensive,” he said.
“Our community is right on the Murray River and the Lake Hume so it is important we teach them a survival skill that is for life.”
Ten weeks of lessons would usually cost around $150 but with the funding the price comes down to just $30.
Jaydah Murray, 2 is one of 30 children enrolled in the program, her dad Derek said without the funding they couldn’t afford the lessons.
Morning and afternoon lessons are available from Monday to Saturday.
