A grass fire escaped from pallets that were being burnt outside a Kerr Street warehouse about 4.20pm.
Two fire trucks from Wangaratta, one from South Wangaratta and about eight firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within a matter of minutes.
Senior station officer Carl Stibilj said while they were able to contain the fire quickly, people need to be vigilant.
“The fire got away from them because they weren’t watching it closely enough,” he said.
“It has dried off a lot quicker this year than last year.
“Fire danger period isn’t far away and there won’t be any burning off without a permit in that time.
“People need to ensure they take all appropriate measures when they are burning and comply with regulations and bylaws.”
