Kitchen Confidential will be held at GIGS Art Gallery and is named after a famous cookbook.
Just like the book, Mahon’s paintings tell tales from the kitchen.
It has the subtle, still paintings of a relaxed home kitchen, before expanding with bright, sharp works depicting the hustle and bustle of a commercial kitchen.
Mahon said it was his first solo exhibition, with most of his inspiration coming from his work as a chef.
“I was asked while on the way to a job interview, so I ended up working two chef jobs while I was painting,” he said.
“The works are about being in the kitchen.
“The commercial kitchens are really busy, almost over-stimulating, while the still life ones are from more of a home kitchen setting.”
Mahon designed the art on the wall of Zo’i Espresso on Macauley and Dean streets.
The opening is from 5.30pmto 7.30pm on the Lincoln Causeway, with the exhibition showing until November 30.
