The N-series passenger rolling stock on the V/Line system was introduced from 1977 to 1981, based on a basic design from the 1950s.
To put it in a transport perspective, in 1979 Holden had just replaced the HZ with the first Commodore.
The youngest of the N-series coaches will be 40 years old at their nominated retirement date in 2020.
Do we really believe that these reconditioned coaches will be replaced by “purpose-built, long-haul coaches” in 2020 when the cost of refurbishment was incurred in the previous five years?
This is just the thinking that got the track wrong.
