Let’s not forget that on top of this $500,000, the member gets paid a $200,000 salary plus expense allowance and 4-5 full time staff.
So the cost of her representation is more than $1 million to the electorate in its first year.
I’m not sure that the electorate realised that the campaign cry of ‘make it marginal, we’ll get more’ was really going to translate to new offices as the big win for the year.
Taxpayers are paying for this, so I think it’s completely justified for people to have their say on whether this is prudent expenditure.
I say it reeks of gluttony.
Good on you Border Mail for bringing this to light and keeping the member accountable. That’s what journalism is supposed to do.
