THE Northern Football League is this afternoon mourning the death of one of its junior coaches, drowned at Lake Mulwala while swimming with his son.
The body of Marty Humphreys, 44, from Mernda in Melbourne's north, was recovered this afternoon after he first went missing on Wednesday night.
It is understood Mr Humphreys, an under 12s coach at South Morang Football Club, had a medical condition.
Mr Humphreys and four children including his 11-year-old son - all of whom were staying at the nearby Lakeside Holiday Park - went for a swim about 8.30pm, aiming for a tree 80 metres from the bank.
He found himself struggling, calling out to the children before slipping beneath the water.
Emergency services searched until 11.30pm before calling off the search and resuming this morning.
His body was found at 12.25pm.
Tributes from his footy club began flowing on social media by late afternoon: “Marty has a long and successful history in the Diamond Valley & Northern Football League, his football career ending with our great club.... we send our condolences to (his family members)... Rest in peace mate.”
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
2.05PM: Rescue divers have found the body of a man who went missing in Lake Mulwala overnight.

Earlier: A MAN has gone missing while swimming with children at Lake Mulwala.
The 44-year-old was in the water near a caravan park on Corowa Road, Mulwala, with a number of children when he got into trouble about 8.30pm on Wednesday.
The children managed to swim to shore but the man, from Mernda VIC, has not been seen or heard from since.
At the shore the children raised the alarm and a number of people started searching the water with their boats without success.
An official search was launched by Mulwala Police, the Volunteer Rescue Association, Mulwala and Yarrawonga SES units and NSW Fire and Rescue but the man was not found.
The search was called off at 11.30pm and will resume at 7am this morning.
