Ambulance Victoria sent in a helicopter to rescue the 14-year-old, from Melbourne, after she slipped down Eurobin Falls at around 1.50pm.
Bright’s Leading Sen-Constable Jason Hewitt said she had been swimming at the falls with family and friends.
“She has probably fallen 50 metres from the ledge about half way between the upper and lower falls,” he said.
“It’s just such a dangerous place.”
It wasn’t the first time someone has injured themselves at that waterway, which has signs with warning messages.
Volunteers from Bright SES and Bright Police assisted with the rescue.
The injured girl was put on a spinal board and carried to Mount Buffalo Road.
A spokeswomen for Ambulance Victoria said she was then flown from Porepunkah to the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
