That’s the dimensions of each of several monster tanks made by Wodonga’s JC Butko Engineering.
The 450-tonne capacity tanks are so big that Butko’s staff have had to do the build in sections to meet haulage permit requirements.
Each of the four pieces in these tanks will be put together on site over the next three weeks.
“This is the single-biggest contract that Butko has received in its history as far as a one-off contract,” company project manager Tony Dragovic said.
The job for GrainCorp involves building 51 steel tanks, of which 37 will go to its Numurkah site.
All the tanks are stainless steel except for three carbon steel 100-tonne tanks built for West Footscray, which is taking 14 of the tanks.
The tanks vary in size from 10 to 450 tonnes and will store edible oil, though a few will be used as wash tanks.
Mr Dragovic said the seven 450-tonne capacity tanks meant there were 28 sections that had to be transported to Numurkah, “two at a time”.
In-depth design work for the job started in June last year, with the 20th tank now under construction.
“With these bigger sizes out of the way we have three 250-tonne tanks out in the yard waiting to be transported in about two weeks’ time,” Mr Dragovic said.
“Some of these tanks will need heating coils and so 28 of the 51 tanks have to be insulated and clad.”
The whole project has to be completed by the end of May or early June.
Mr Dragovic said the project had gone smoothly.
“We try to plan everything with as much detail as possible,” he said.
“We’ve certainly controlled it fairly well with the crew we’ve got.”
