It is alleged he broke a man’s jaw after a touch football event in October and two days later headbutted another man in a confrontation.
Solicitor Mark Cronin said Maksymow initially sought to be represented by Aboriginal Legal Aid, but it had a conflict in the matter as it was representing a co-accused.
An application was made for legal aid, but Maksymow had employment and did not qualify.
Mr Cronin said Maksymow was last week made redundant and another application for legal aid would be made.
It is likely the case will be referred back to Mr Cronin when a grant for aid is approved.
Magistrate Tony Murray adjourned the charges to March 4 and altered Maksymow’s bail, requiring him to live at a residence in Duffy Crescent, North Albury.
Mr Cronin said Maksymow had agreed without admissions to 12-month apprehended violence orders against him being sought by four men.
Maksymow, 22, has been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm from an incident at Lavington on October 6.
He faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and assault occasioning actual bodily harm from a confrontation at Thurgoona two days later.
Mr Murray was told by police in October they had been unable to serve the applications for apprehended violence orders on Maksymow.
Maksymow represented the O & M league last season.
