HOW much can Wodonga Raiders’ success-starved fans take out of Saturday’s 113-point drubbing of East Doncaster at Howlong?
While the opposition was undermanned, particularly with former Raiders’ trio Dean Limbach, Michael Steven and Dean Giles missing, it was blatantly clear that Daryn Cresswell’s recruits can play.
Ross Tungatalum kicked five goals despite only arriving on the Border on Friday, Todd Grayson was outstanding in the limited time he spent on the ground, Jake Goldsmith booted four and looks set to provide a serious focal point and Jackson Clark and Matt Murray made strong contributions around the packs.
Cresswell was pleased but wasn’t getting carried away with practice match form.
“It was a good effort,” he said.
“I thought we had some really good passages of play, which was pleasing because we have been working on ball movement and structures.
“We had six or so out and they had some players missing as well so it’s hard to gauge the performance.”
Wodonga Raiders, who went into the clash without Matt McDonald and Hayden Heta, will complete its preparations against the Sydney Swans reserves in Sydney later this week.
An early blitz from Adam Prior set up Lavington’s hard-fought win against North Albury at Bunton Park.
Prior kicked the opening three goals of the match against his former team on his way to booting five and was given a steady supply of opportunities from Luke Garland and Tom Hargreave.
North Albury had good players in recruit Hunter Lloyd, Dan Leslie playing in midfield and Kris Holman.
Wangaratta signing Matt Westhoff showed glimpses of form in the Magpies’ win over Shepparton Bears, Shepparton Swans accounted for Myrtleford and Wangaratta Rovers defeated Wodonga.
Balwyn comfortably defeated a Brendan Fevola-less Yarrawonga at J.C. Lowe Oval.
