Those attending the summit at the Performing Arts Centre on April 14 will hear from guest speakers including former AFL Swans player Luke Ablett and Somalian civil war survivor Abdi Aden.
The aim is to encourage the young people to brainstorm ideas for their city with the three best proposals each receiving $2000 in funding.
Organisers say they want young people empowered to do things for themselves, rather than what they think older people might determine is important.
Invitations to the event have been extended across the city’s secondary schools, TAFE institute and other service providers.
Already the council has held an online survey that has identified issues of relevance including education, employment, relationships and youth-friendly spaces.
The forum will give young people the best chance to determine how their city might cater to their needs and those of their peers and they should make sure they join in.
