Police raided a home in West Wodonga about 3pm yesterday and arrested a woman, 22.
They stopped a 40-year-old woman driving on Moorefield Park Drive about an hour later, searched her car, and arrested her.
The women — who are related — have been charged after counterfeit $100 notes were used at a McDonald’s restaurant and The Reject Shop in the past week.
Police have recovered several fake notes.
Detective Leading Senior Constable Andrew Leonard said both women had been bailed.
“We’re keen to talk to anyone who has information on the origin of these notes,” he said.
“They can contact detectives at Wodonga police or Crime Stoppers.
“Our investigations are continuing.”
The women will now face court in June.
Anyone with further information can contact police on (02) 6049 2600 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
