The cancellation of Cr van de Ven’s membership came after a hearing before the club’s board of directors.
Cr van de Ven says he is “gutted” by the club’s decision which comes four years after his 25-year membership of the club was cancelled after he was found guilty on two of four charges of unbecoming conduct.
This month, Cr van de Ven had questioned pro-shop staff about the size of a playing group he was placed in for the competition round and suggested an alternative to ensure there was no slow play.
The club’s board of directors determined he was guilty of unbecoming conduct by a member.
It seems unfortunate a member with such a long association with the golf club as a representative player and club champion should find himself in this situation.
Members should be expected to conduct themselves with decorum with staff and other members when they are at the club but they should also be able address club procedures appropriately.
