A fire breathing act from Zach Johnson heated up what was a cold night while Ruben Ingwersen performed a balancing act on his unicycle
The pair admitted they weren’t sure what to expect in the lead up to the show, but when a crowd of about 230 people crept in before 7pm their nerves subsided and their inner performers came out to wow the spectators.
Mr Johnson said he couldn’t be happier with how the night went.
“I haven’t been that nervous for a show in a while,” he said.
“We did all the work so it was all on us, but once we started and the audience came in, the nerves went and we just did our thing.
“It was definitely worth all the effort to put it together, it was the best thing I’ve done all year, it was amazing.
“It was a lot more casual and laid back then other things we have been involved in.
“The audience was a lot closer, it felt a lot more intimate and everyone was involved.”
The street style performance was called Castles of Crates and was filled with comedy, hip-hop dancing and choreography that incorporated milk crates.
The duo got the crowd going with a juggling act before Mr Johnson did a mouth-stick bottle balancing routine.
They added an element of danger with a bed of nails and fire breathing and eating before Mr Ingwersen rode across a rail on two crate on his unicycle.
After all the dancing and danger was done, the audience jumped up into the space and danced creating an energetic finale to the night.
The two performers will now go their own ways with Mr Johnson performing in Circus Under my Bed with the Flying Fruit Fly Circus and Mr Ingwersen jetting off to a circus school in Montreal.
But even though they have a busy year ahead, Mr Johnson said they hoped to put on another street show in Albury in the future.
“We’ve got so many ideas so we are definitely are thinking of doing more shows, when we aren’t so busy,” he said.
“Thanks to all of our friends who helped us out.”
A short film of the performance will be put on the pair’s Castles and Crates Facebook page.
